Cazu is the best supermarket it has the most stock people may be surprised by the prices as it is expensive here in Cape Verde everything has to be imported and prices in the supermarket can be higher than European prices.

There is a local market in the town of Santa Maria open Monday – Saturday in the morning it is fruit and Vegetables in the afternoon they bring fresh fish, would only recommend if customer is wanting to cook as it is cheaper than the supermarkets

Weekends are busy in Santa Maria and there is a great atmosphere the main street is closed off from vehicles so the bars extend seating onto the streets.

Best beaches in resort

Ponta Preta, is a good beach for surfers in the winter with it has high winds so not good for people wanting to sunbathe also sea may not be safe swimming

Santa Maria Beach, is better for people to sunbathe on and go swimming the sea conditions here are usually better , sun beds on the beach are privately owned and cost 10€ for two for the day.

Kite Beach is the place to go for kite surfing, if you are not kite surfer it’s still worth a visit to see as it is always busy with the kites.
